If I could do research on any topic in early childhood to create a positive contribution, it would be towards the welfare reform. Due to it being so many families who are of low income, welfare helps but it only does so much to help the children. It is said that low income children still show lower levels of school involvement and higher levels of behavioral problems. Welfare reform policies should be evaluated and adapted with children's outcomes within the issue. Welfare benefits adults by increasing employment and income of single parents. To improve children's well-being, I believe that earning supplements can be very important to complement programs aimed at improving the development of low income children. By concentrating on putting money into the quality of early childcare and education can help foster children's positive development and school readiness. This can help children stay out of trouble, have a healthy future, and to most of all get out of welfare and make a great living for themselves.
Angel,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! If there were no ethics involved, that could also mean there would be no money restraints either! :-p Wouldn't that be a dream! It has always interested me how linked together all topics in the early childhood field are linked together. Keep up the great work!
Angel, great post. I do have a question. do you think kids that are living off welfare maybe have a self esteem problem? Where I live there aren't many jobs so when you have parents with 3-5 kids and still have to provide shelter light gas and water It can be hard. Then the kids may go to school and seeing their friends with all new clothes and a different pair of shoes every other week can be bothersome. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteWell Chaundra, I think that what you stated can be a part of it. Other factors along with it may come from single parents not able to have the time to spend with them or it could be the mental and physical health status of the child. Sometimes even though the parents have jobs they may not have enough food at home due to paying bills. The child maybe hungry but kids cannot function well without food. It can very well be a mixture of situations that can make the child not be as successful in school. Hopefully I answered the best for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Angel,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great topic to research! I would love to know more information how your research question. There is a huge need for a welfare reform, and many families need assistance. With the rising housing cost and the price of living in general becoming more expensive government assistance is needed more than before. Your research could maybe birth another program that would be beneficial to families.
